Mission
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland is a charity dedicated to giving young people from all walks of life a chance to experience sail training.
The key element of this mission is to build social capital and use boat based learning to expose young people to adventure, develop core skills and increase a sense of community.
Vision
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland believes that young people from all walks of life should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Ocean Youth Trust Ireland use ‘Adventure under Sail’ as a means to help young people gain knowledge about themselves and others. We help young people to live healthy, fulfilling lives and make a positive contribution to their community and society as a whole.
Aims
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland will promote youth centred programmes which use boat based learning as a means to respond to issues raised by young people in Ireland.
Ocean Youth Trust will be work in partnership with youth agencies and individuals from within the local community as well as voluntary groups to design creative programmes which meet the needs of young people from across Ireland using the outdoors as a medium for development.
Objectives
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland will run programmes which recognise that outdoor education and sail training enhance the lives of young people regardless of ability or background.
Ocean Youth Trust Ireland uses Boat Based Learning as a tool to encourage trainees, staff and volunteers to:
- LEARN-Learn more about themselves.
- DEVELOP-Develop team working skills. (Problem Solving, Leadership, Communication etc)
- ACHIEVE-Set and achieve goals.
- ACTIONS-Make positive decisions and take responsibility for their actions.
- ENCOURAGE-Encourage a sense of Equality, Diversity and Interdependence.
- BECOME-Become more aware and use their environment in creative ways.
- EVALUATE-Evaluate their experience to make the most of the opportunity.
- LEARN-Learn and practice new skills in a safe space.
Sail Training OYTI Style
OYTI is a youth centered organisation at who's heart is experiential learning. We do not simply take young people on a boat trip, we bring them on a journey of discovery about themselves, their environment and ultimately help them find their place in society. |
